The chemical industry of producing chlorine and caustic soda by electrolysis of saturated salt (NaCl) aqueous solution is called chlor alkali industry. Chlor alkali industry is one of the most basic chemical industries. Basic reaction principle:

Cathodic reduction reaction 2H2O + 2e → H2↑ + 2OHˉ,Na⁺ +OHˉ → NaOH
Total reaction 2NaCl + 2H2O → 2NaOH + Cl2↑ + H2↑
Application of titanium electrode:
Carbon anode was used in chlor alkali industry, then artificial graphite anodewas used.
